The Groundhogs are one of the criminally underrated blues/mod/freakbeat (take your pick all the labels fit) bands of the sixties. They started out backing John Lee Hooker on his tours of the United Kingdom in the early sixties, went on to have a dozen or so albums before breaking up in the mid-70s. This track, Shake It, is a floor stomper of an R&B number and was one of the band's first singles being released in 1964. It later was featured on the first volume of the most excellent English Freakbeat series.January 17, 2009
