Clem Burke gets his due

I've always thought Clem was underrated and never really got that accolades he deserved. Until now. Can't wait to see this one.

From the Vaults - Modcast #143 with guest host Modest Proposal's Neal Augenstein

Okay, with Modest Proposal set to release a new album next month, and livestream an acoustic session this weekend on the modcast facebook page, it seemed like a good time to open up the vaults and dust off this modcast from nearly a decade ago.  Modest Proposal front man Neal Augenstein guest hosted Modcast #143 at the time of the group's then first reunion in 25 years. Great mix of music and a bit of band history from Neal.

Original post Oct. 11, 2009:
One of the first mod singles I ever owned was by Modest Proposal a band out of Washington DC. It was a great single and I played it to death over the years. So, it was cool to get a message from Neal Augenstein, MP's lead singer, with news that the band was planning to reunite. They will be playing November 28th at Comet Ping Pong, on upper Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC - and the opening band will be The Reply. (Get tix here)

Neal, who now works at radio station WTOP is chronicling the band's reunion. The first post is here and there are several others as well. I wish I could be in DC to see the band back together. If any of you do get to the show take some pictures and let us all know how it turns out.

This week's show is hosted by Neal and it's a crackin' good one. I think you'll enjoy it, I know I did.

The Modern Lovers -- She Cracked
The O'Kaysions -- I'm A Girl Watcher
Petula Clark -- Downtown
Cass Elliot -- Make Your Own Kinda Music
The Jam -- Standards
Jackson 5 -- The Love You Save
Davy Jones -- Girl
The Beatles -- I Wanna Hold Your Hand
The Ramones -- Don't Go
Purple Hearts -- My Life's A Jigsaw
Peter Paul & Mary -- If I Had A Hammer (The Hammer Song)

Modest Proposal -- Nobody Says No

Mod band Modest Proposal livestreamed a preview of their new album

Livestream on Sun., July 22 at 8pmEDT / 5pmPDT(https://www.facebook.com/modmodworld/)

Watch the video of the livestream here now!

In the 80s we didn't have the internet, you had to really work to find good music. And it was especially difficult to find "mod" bands. You knew the locals of course, but out there in the hinterlands who knew what the hell was going on. Well, somehow I found out about Washington DC's Modest Proposal early on with the release of their 1985 single I've Seen Your Face Before b/w Nobody Says No and I was hooked. The album that came a couple years later was just as good, delivering a dozen sixties influenced, power pop tracks that have stood the test of time pretty well. The internet makes the world a smaller place, as it did in 2009 when Modest Proposal's lead singer Neal Augenstein contacted me to let me know they were have a reunion show. Now they're beyond just reuniting and the band is putting out a new release, part Modest Proposal, and part their later band The Mondays.

So, to celebrate we're hosting a livestream on Sunday, July 22 at 8pm EDT / 5pm PDT on the modacast Facebook page. Original members Neal and Bill Crandall will be on hand to play some songs and answer questions. The new album comes out August 10th, on Detour Records. Only printing 200 CDs, so you're gonna want to get in on the presale for this one!

Modcast #411: Behind The Music Vol. II

After a dozen years of modcasting the tables were finally turned in episode 400 when I was the one getting grilled by Mary Queen of Cosmos in Mr. Suave Behind The Music volume one. And now it's time for Behind The Music volume two with more on scenes, fanzines, the intersection of the mod scene with cocktail culture and the beginnings of Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World.

Instead of bonus videos this time around you get bonus flyers and fanzines. I've uploaded tons of old flyers from the 80s southern California mod scene and you can check them all out here. And since we have a nice discussion about the fanzine I edited, Insight Out, I've got some cover shots here as well. From the first cut and paste issue to the full on desktop published issues. One and done, one year five issues. It was a lot of fun interviewing bands like Bad Manners and Buster Bloodvessel, The Skeletones, The Idea, The Funseekers and lots more.
