Join me for a deep dive into the nation's capitol, not the swampy reflecting pool, no I am turning the wayback machine to the early 80s and the beginnings of the mod revival in Washington DC.
To bring us this mod origin story I am joined by a man who was there to see it all as it happened, the lead singer for mod power pop rockers Modest Proposal, and The Mondays!, friend of the Modcast Neal Augenstein.
And we'll get an early listen to the debut single from DC's The Generation, which was locked in a London storage unit for 33 years.
Also, Bill Crandall from Modest Proposal has a great blog post remembering many of Washington DC's mod revival bands.

Welcome to Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World. This week's show is nothing short of loungerific, with some groovy instrumentals, some swingin' covers, and just lots of cool songs from beginning to end.
French lounge master Chris Joss is in the house with his latest, as is Frank Popp Ensemble. Got a nice little set of pacific northwest lounge acts, The Colorifics, Dudley Manlove Quartet and Johnny Astro are complimented by the classic sound stylings of Vic Damone, Jeri Southern and the one and only Mel Torme. And there are some great bonus videos of Mel and Vic from back in the day, doing their thing. So, mix yourself a nice little libation and settle back for some sweet lounge sounds.
Welcome to the wild side of the mod beginnings, the wild, wooly, often whacky, world of freakbeat. What is freakbeat? Good question and depending on who you ask people will tell you the sound of freakbeat includes everything from The Dave Clark Five to The Pretty Things, Herman's Hermits to The Beatles to The Action to The Wimple Winch, to even The Supremes. Anyhow here's my answer to that question. Let's take a walk on the wild side. Listen now Download

It's all happening here with my special guest mod DJ, Derek Delboy Shepherd. Derek has his finger on the pulse of new mod music, and has had for quite a while. In the 80s he published one of the longest running mod fanzines ever, the legendary In The Crowd. And in the 90s followed that up by publishing another top fanzine, Tailor Made. These days he curates all the new mod friendly music you can find on his Spotify playlist, and he manages the New Mod Music group on Facebook. Here we jibber jabber about our experiences publishing fanzines back in the day, what mod music has inspired us over the years, and what we're listening to in the here and now. So much to talk about we didn't even get to how he met Paul Weller!

What happens when two old mods finally sit down and compare style notes? They discover their paths directly crossed nearly 40 years earlier for one thing. And they explore new sounds, old bands, and the everlasting strength of the mod lifestyle. I am joined by one of the best northern soul, mod DJs on the scene today, Mod Marty. He's the host of his own long running podcast On Target, and part of The Internationalists Club podcast along with T-Spurs and Lord Ward.

Twenty years ago I got an iPod. The rest as they say is history. Having published a mod fanzine in So Cal in the 80s, and then a website in the 90s devoted to mod style and cocktail culture, I was predisposed to be intrigued by this new fangled publishing medium called a podcast. I dove in head first on May 26, 2006 with the very first episode of It's A Mod Mod World, which quickly got rebranded to Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World. Now here we are 20 years and 600 shows later. I'm joined by some old mates from the Positive Steps scooter club to talk scooters, concerts and music both old and new.

Is there a new mod renaissance upon us? That is the question I've been asking myself since last year. Sitting in Seattle casting my jaundiced eye on the scene from afar I ask you: is London swinging again? Over the years claims of new mod revivals have been made, and almost never supported, especially in the 21st century. I dive deep into the subject, here's my research and my opinion. Agree or disagree? Let me know. Either way I think you'll enjoy the show.
