Modcast #320: Mod, Mod, Mod; Punk, Punk, Punk; Music, Music, Music

This week I turn on the way back machine and head back to the punk frontier of the late 70s and early 80s. Why is that? Well I just finished reading the completely fantastic Clothes Clothes Clothes Music Music Music Boys Boys Boys. It's the memoir of Slits guitarist Viv Albertine. For music fans, the first half of the book is really great recounting Viv's time as a part of the Sex Pistols inner-circle of friends, her on-again off-again tortured romance with Mick Jones and her encounters with everyone from Chrissy Hynde to Malcolm Mclaren.

The second half of the book is even better really, telling the story of the rest of Viv's life and her battles with cancer, men, and depression. It also chronicles her life as a filmmaker/videographer, wife and mother, and her eventual make-up with music after leaving it behind for almost 25 years. She has crazy will power and her personality is clearly a force of nature. It was inspiring and a great read and I highly recommend it.

So, reading that got me listening to a lot of the music that she wrote about and that got me digging through my old power pop and punk files and I decided rather than play a whole bunch of stuff you all probably know by heart I'd throw out some more obscure and less heard stuff. So I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I have putting this modcast together.

1 ounce maple syrup
1 ounce lemon juice
2 splashes Bar Keep baked apple bitters
Mix all ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass with a sugared rim. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
