On this week's modcast I'm bringing you some wonderful music from that decade of decades, the 1960s. The sixties got stuck in my craw early on, when I was just a young'un. For some reason from a very early age I just really liked all sorts of sixties stuff -- movies, tv, music, fashion. It was only natural that when I got to be a teen that I would get sucked into the mod scene with it's love of all things sixties. Recently I was talking to a friend about Mad Men about how many changes the decade went through. Thanks to watching Mad Men we realized how everything duuring the sixties seemed to radically change every few years. Just look at the difference between music in 1960 and music in 1970. So this week I'm taking you on a year by year trip through the decade highlighting some great songs, one per year, with a few bonus songs to wrap up the hour.

Here's a rare video of southern California early 80s mod band The Question with Tony Rugolo on bass, Phil Cusimano on guitar & vocals, and David White on Drums.
Got a full load of new music for you to keep you shuff, shuff, shuffling your feet. And a few older toe tappers in here as well, just to keep things interesting.
Once more into the vault my friends, once more into the vault. Step back in time, to a time when the modcast was young and fresh. Take a giant step outside your current listening constraints and journey with me all the way back to those oh so sweltering days of Summer 2007. I've opened up the vaults and dusted off a couple classic modcasts that I think you'll enjoy. Again.
At long last, the much anticipated Squire tribute album has arrived. And it's worth the wait. Seventeen fantastic Squire songs covered by a whole slew of various mod and power pop bands like The Shambles, the Little Murders, Paul Bevoir, Mega Super Ultra, Jeremy and Mod Fun. Squire epitomized the pop side of mod during the revival of the late 70s and early 80s. They were at the forefront of the scene the entire time, and later helped revitalize the American mod scene by appearances in the states --especially in California-- throughout the late 80s. Now we have The Young Idea A Pop Tribute to Anthony Meynell and Squire. I'm previewing a couple of tracks for you all on today's show. You can pickup your copy over at the Jam Records website.
Squire -- Take a Look
The Eddies -- Debbie Jones
The Shingles -- Girl on a Train
The Blocked -- Plastic Punks
Mother Earth -- Very Together
Three 0'Clock -- I Go Wild
Mary's Danish -- Yellow Creep Around
Leaving Trains -- Cigarette Motel
The Canary Sect -- See Me In Action
Code Blue -- Modern Times
Bim Skala Bim -- Talk Talk and Talk
Bim Skala Bim - Solitary Confinement (1985)
Bim Skala Bim - Skeleton (1995)
Modcast #45: See the Light
This week's modcast has some good stuff. There's a good dose of power pop as usual. But, there's a nice little trio of 80s synthesizer infused, soul influenced modpop as well. I think you'll find a striking similarity between Mood Six and The Truth, both sounding like precursors to later groups such as Swing Out Sister or the Orange Peels.
Another week, another great modcast coming your way. I'm, kicking off the show with an American 60s band that sounds almost more mod than the British mods of their day. The band is Powder and I included them this week in part because this coming Saturday I'm going to get to meet them when they play at the Studio 66 mod night at the LoFi Performance Gallery here in Seattle, and lucky me I'm going to be the guest DJ.
Another thing that is making this week's show especially good is that I'm joined by my old friend Dean Hoth who is the singer and bass player for power pop band The Eddies. Additionally Dean has been a behind the scenes mover and shaker in producing some great tribute albums, and is also working on releasing unheard live materials of older mod bands from the 80s to the 90s to the 21st century. Such as The Shambles. He's got some news for mod music lovers.
Powder -- I Try (1968)
Chardon Square -- 65 Film Show (1985)
The Plimsouls -- Great Big World (1980)
The Shambles -- Blindspot (1996)
Cheap Trick -- I Want You To Want Me (1979)
Jeff Hershey & The Heartbeats -- Don't Come Around (2013)
Fitz & The Tantrums -- Spark (2013)
Greyboy Allstars -- Old Crow (2013)
Vampire Weekend -- A-Punk (2008)
Scouting For Girls -- She's So Lovely (2007)
Tim Timebomb & Friends -- Skeleton Crew (2012)
Spearmint -- Outside The Roundhouse (1999)
Generation X -- Friday's Angels (1979)
Split Enz -- Six Months In A Leaky Boat (1981)
The Blues Magoos -- Gotta Get Away (1966)
I'm getting off my lazy ass this weekend and going out on the town. I've been invited to be the guest DJ at Studio 66, the quarterly mod night at the LoFi Performance Gallery in Seattle. If you're in town look us up after 9pm. Also appearing will be Powder the sixties power/art pop band.
