It's baseball season so I've called up a promising prospect to give this week's modcast some real slugging power. Mike Patton from Vista Blue joins me this week to talk baseball, music, and baseball music. He's submitted a line up that is sure to win. So put on your rally caps, get yourself an overpriced beer and a cold hot dog because it's time to play ball!
Jazz has always played a big part of the mod lifestyle, indeed it was arguably the founding sound of the original mods. Over the years R&B, soul, power pop and other musical styles have become even more dominant in some ways. But elements of jazz always have been and always will be a mainstay of mods the world over. I'm not a deep jazz cat by any means, but I like jazz. I've got lots of jazz favorites like from the early stuff like Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, and Count Basie, and of course all the various flavors of mod jazz from Jimmy Smith, Chico Hamilton, Miles Davis, and so on. So, this week I'm veering a little more contemporary with more modern mod friendly jazz acts.
Hard to beat, both the music in this week's show and the flu that's been going around. I may have been down, but I'm not out. In fact, this week I'm in, way in, with new music and old.

Get the funk up outta your chair and start movin' and groovin' to that souled out beat. From across the decades comes another bowlful of sizzling soul tracks, new, old, classic and everything in between.
St. Germain Cranberry Cocktail
1 lime
1 tablespoon sugar
2 ounces vodka
1 ounce St. Germain liqueur
1 ounce cranberry juice
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add vodka, elderflower liqueur, cranberry juice, and 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice. Shake vigorously to combine and strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wedge and frozen cranberries and serve. Zest 1/2 of the lime into a small bowl and combine with rimming sugar, rubbing the sugar and zest together with your fingers until fragrant. Sprinkle onto a small plate. Cut the lime into wedges, then use one to wet the edge of the serving glass. Gently tap the edge of the glass into the sugar, coating well. Set aside.

1½ oz. Raspberry Vodka
½ oz. elderflower liqueur
½ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. simple syrup
¼ oz. water
To make simple syrup, mix equal parts hot water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice and shake until well blended. Poor into cocktial glass and garnish with mint sprigs and raspberries.
